Koenig, the inventor of the instrument, said that the resolution of this instrument is thousands of times higher than that of traditional ultrasonic instruments. It can not only observe single cells, but also mitochondria. With the help of this instrument, it can be tested whether sunscreen and other anti-aging products are effective. It can also be used to test the effects of nicotine, hormone drugs, etc. on skin aging.
In addition, because cancer cells are brighter than healthy cells under laser irradiation, doctors can also use the three-dimensional image provided by this instrument to determine how the skin cells of skin cancer patients become cancerous, without removing the patient's tissue cells for analysis.
Koenig won the German Berthold Leibinger Applied Laser Technology Innovation Award for this invention.
