Leading "Made in China" with 3D printing

On August 21, Lu Bingheng and Zhou Ji, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, went to the State Council. In the 30-minute special lecture of the State Council, he explained advanced manufacturing and 3D printing for Premier Li Keqiang and various departments of the State Council, central enterprises and financial institutions.

Recently, Lu Bingheng, who just finished the first lecture of "National Lessons", returned to Xi'an to share his experience of "classing" with his colleagues.

"As a technician and academician, I am very happy to contribute to the national engineering development decision." Lu Bingheng told the Journal of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

A week after the State Department’s lecture, Lu Bingheng and many experts continued to think deeply and discuss the field of 3D printing. Experts believe that 3D printing, as a “disruptive” technology, will lead “Made in China” and will also provide conditions for mass entrepreneurship and innovation.

a carefully prepared lesson

For the past 20 years, Lu Bingheng has been working on 3D printing manufacturing research. He has served as the technical master of the national major science and technology special "high-end CNC machine tools and basic manufacturing equipment", and the leadership team has developed a 2.5-meter gear high-speed and efficient processing equipment.

In the words of Jiang Zelin, deputy secretary general of the State Council: "Professor Lu is not an ordinary professor!" He praised Lu Bingheng not only doing well in learning, but also starting a business with technology shares and realizing the industrialization of results.

At the end of April this year, the State Council Office sent an invitation letter. Lu Bingheng told reporters: "The courseware has been prepared since May, finalized in July, and revised in August. The content has been constantly adjusted, from 3D printing manufacturing to advanced manufacturing."

Lu Bingheng said frankly, how to consider the most in the preparation, or how to talk about the overall concept and situation of full-advanced manufacturing, but also highlight the key issues, so that the heads of enterprises and financial institutions can understand. Finally, the courseware was also personally revised by Zhou Ji.

Under the careful preparation of Lu Bingheng, the 30-minute lecture content made the State Council's "big-name audience" unfinished, and it took more than ten minutes to end.

Prime Minister’s insights are inspiring

In more than 40 minutes of lectures, Premier Li Keqiang repeatedly asked Lu Bingheng to "open up and talk" and "sit down and talk" and also actively participated in the seminar several times. "I personally feel the Prime Minister's respect for knowledge and intellectuals, especially pragmatic!" Lu Bingheng said.

Many experts who are concerned about 3D printing have also praised the Prime Minister’s speech after seeing the news reports. "The publication of unique insights into such a specific technology also highlights the prime minister's consistently pragmatic, practical, and grounded work style." Shen Haijun, a professor at the School of Aerospace and Mechanics at Tongji University, told the Journal of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Shen Haijun also pointed out that the Prime Minister skillfully raised the topic to the idea of "governing the Chinese economy to a mid-to-high-end level, and must have a new concept."

Duan Xuanming, a researcher at the Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, also carefully studied the Prime Minister’s insights on 3D printing. The “disruptive technology” left a deep impression on him.

“3D printing is a new concept that has emerged in China in the past ten years. At present, most of the application of this technology is focused on model manufacturing.” Duan Xuanming introduced to the Journal of Chinese Journal of Science and Technology, “3D printing is in manufacturing. More is seen as an assistive technology."

In the "classroom" of the State Council, Premier Li Keqiang pointed out that 3D printing is a representative subversive technology in the manufacturing industry, which has realized a major change in manufacturing from materials, materials to additives, and changed the concept of traditional manufacturing. The model has great value. In Duan Xuanming's view, Lu Bingheng's detailed explanation and the deep understanding of the Prime Minister, 3D printing is expected to be regarded as the mainstream technology of China's manufacturing industry and received strong support from the state.

Showing the path of "innovation for all"

GE has posted a message online to encourage makers to challenge 3D printing to build an aircraft component. Among the more than 700 programs collected, a 19-year-old designer proposed a complete test with only 1/6 of the original structure, which exceeded the senior experts in GE.

“3D printing shows the path of innovation for all.” In the lecture of the State Council, Lu Bingheng finished the above story and made such a summary.

In this regard, Premier Li Keqiang pointed out that manufacturing, as an important pillar industry of the national economy, must seize the opportunity to transform into intelligent manufacturing as the key, relying on mass entrepreneurship and innovation, and is at the forefront of upgrading and development.

Duan Xuanming's team is building a public technology platform that integrates 3D printing and robotics. In his expectation, combined with the Internet and robotics, 3D printing will create a new “social manufacturing system”, which will create a large number of jobs and opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. “A future production task will be distributed to multiple small factories equipped with 3D printers through the Internet and will be completed through distributed manufacturing.” He said, “The cost of small factories is low, which is conducive to mass entrepreneurship and innovation. ”

Lu Bingheng also saw that although domestic 3D printing is very hot, many companies are trapped at low levels. He believes that the breakthrough of 3D printing involves research and development issues, cross-disciplinary and industrial scale, etc. First, we must break through the standard issues. "For example, the most widely used and most useful high-end medical care, there are standards to be allowed to enter, and there is access to industrial development." .

Lu Bingheng suggested that printing materials and product standards should be developed first. At the same time, the R&D personnel cooperate with the company to further incubate the laboratory results and realize the industrialization of the products.
