A new study from the Chen Hualan scientific research team from the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences shows that the new H7N9 influenza virus that has caused human infection in China recently is highly homologous to the H7N9 avian influenza virus that existed on the live poultry market during the same period. The source of the new H7N9 influenza virus has been revealed from the perspective of etiology, which provides an important basis for the scientific prevention and control of H7N9 avian influenza in China. The study showed that the new H7N9 influenza virus is a recombinant virus of viruses from different sources. The study found that the receptor binding site of the H7N9 virus acquired some mutations characteristic of human influenza virus, and the virus acquired adaptive mutations at key amino acid sites after infecting humans. These may be related to the virus's ability to infect and kill humans . On March 31, the National Health and Family Planning Commission announced cases of human infection with the H7N9 influenza virus in Shanghai and Anhui. The National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory quickly responded by collecting 970 pathogenic samples from live poultry markets and farms in Shanghai and Anhui, and tested 20 positive for the H7N9 avian influenza virus. Gene sequence analysis showed that each gene fragment of H7N9 avian influenza virus is highly homologous to H7N9 human isolates, proving that the H7N9 influenza virus that caused human infection and lethality may be derived from the H7N9 avian influenza virus in poultry in the same period. It should be noted that these viruses were isolated from samples collected from the live poultry market, and all samples from the farm were negative, proving that the new H7N9 virus may have been produced in the live poultry market. At the suggestion of the National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Shanghai Municipal Government closed the Shanghai live poultry market to cut off the source of the virus. In order to effectively control the new H7N9 avian influenza virus, the laboratory also acted swiftly, carried out active surveillance in various places, conducted laboratory diagnosis, virus isolation and gene sequence comparison overnight, and provided H7N9 avian influenza to the national veterinary disease control department in a timely manner Viral RT-PCR diagnostic kit and standard diagnostic antigen and serum. The reference laboratory currently stocks the H7 subtype avian influenza virus vaccine. The vaccine's immune protection effect against the new H7N9 avian influenza virus is under evaluation.
