The colorants of calligraphy and print reproductions such as Coro, offset, etc. belong to the oil-based ink system, which is generally prepared from oil-soluble substances and natural or artificial pigments. This is quite different from the water-based ink used in calligraphy and painting. Technology can identify these printed copies and imitations.

In addition, studying the materials for the production of prints, paintings and calligraphy works, on the one hand, you can learn about the material composition, production technology and other information. On the other hand, you can also get some information about the era of the prints, paintings and calligraphy, such as Prussian blue, Paris green, etc. The pigment can provide a basis for the dysplasia of printed matter, calligraphy and painting, so the analysis of printed or calligraphy and painting materials can also identify some imitations, replicas and restorations. For damaged prints or calligraphy and painting works, material analysis can also provide guidance for its protection and restoration.
