Hong Kong introduces recycled styrofoam technology

The Hong Kong Productivity Council announced on November 30 that it will formally introduce a new environmental protection technology called "Lemon Oil Recycling System" from Sony Corporation in Japan to reduce environmental pollution caused by styrofoam during transportation.

The lemon olein recycling system is a new environmentally friendly technology that uses lemon olein extracted from orange peel to dissolve styrofoam waste. The dissolved styrofoam can be recycled to create environmentally friendly styrofoam or other plastic products. This technology can also reduce the shipping costs of styrofoam waste. It is alleged that the styrofoam waste that can be collected by a recalled limonene recovery vehicle is equivalent to the capacity of 10 trucks.

Li Xixun, vice president of the Hong Kong Productivity Promotion Bureau, said at the opening ceremony of the Lemon Oil Recycling System Exhibition that this new environmental protection technology can effectively reduce the volume of styrofoam by 50 to 100 times. Its introduction will effectively protect Hong Kong's environment.

According to data from the Environmental Protection Department, an average of 110 tons of styrofoam waste is disposed of at landfills every day in Hong Kong.
