Problems with the packaging and printing industry

After more than 20 years of development in the packaging and printing industry in China, progress has attracted the attention of the world. However, the problem is objective and cannot be ignored.
The unbalanced development between the eastern and western regions is obviously due to the unbalanced economic development in our country, which has caused uneven distribution and unbalanced development in the packaging and printing industry in China. Packaging and printing companies are mainly concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and other coastal areas, while the northwest region is relatively backward, Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai, the Soviet Union a province and a city's total output value of packaging and printing is about 33 billion yuan, accounting for about packaging printing in China About 52% of the industry, and in the northwestern regions (Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Chongqing, Tibet, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Guizhou), the total output value of packaging printing in 12 provinces and cities is about 7.2 billion yuan. , accounting for about 11% of the total output value of packaging printing in China.
The output value of packaging and printing in the five provinces and cities in the southeast is about five times that of the 12 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the west, indicating that the development of the western packaging printing industry lags behind that of the southeast. The gap between these 12 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the west is also very clear. According to relevant government departments' survey data on the printing industry in 12 western provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in 2001, Shaanxi Province had 1.55 billion yuan, Sichuan Province had 1.06 billion yuan, and Yunnan Province’s packaging and printing output value was 2.74 billion yuan, and Ningxia only 0.1 billion yuan, Xinjiang is 0.2 billion yuan, and Tibet is 26 million yuan. The gap between them is several or even hundreds of times. The gap between the eastern and western regions is more comprehensively reflected in the output value. In fact, this gap is also reflected in many aspects such as technology, equipment, talent, management, quality, and business philosophy. Due to the existence of these gaps, the packaging and printing of medicines, foods, and other products that are rich in resources in the west are mostly issued to foreign countries, especially to more developed coastal regions. It is understood that the labeling and packaging of many products in the west have been entrusted to packaging and printing companies in Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang and other places for processing. Long-distance transportation is costly, and transportation costs are ultimately passed on to consumers.
The unbalanced development is also reflected in the printing methods in one area. For example, the gravure printing of paper in Yunnan, especially the packaging of cigarettes, is very strong. There are more than 50 paper gravure printing lines with excess production capacity. However, the production capacity of plastic gravure, offset and flexo printing is insufficient, and these businesses can only be lost to processing in other regions.
Insufficient enterprise innovation capacity Enterprise innovation capability is a very important and critical component of a company's core competitiveness. The development of the packaging and printing industry is no longer an authentic traditional industry. The packaging and printing industry has gradually become a marginal industry along with its own development. It integrates professional technologies such as chemical engineering, machinery, electronics, and networking, and will The latest scientific and technological achievements are quickly applied to the field of packaging and printing to speed up the upgrading of printing equipment and printing technology and introduce new ones.
The application of technological innovations and new technologies in the United States, Germany and other developed countries in Europe and the United States have done very well. They have new intellectual property rights, new technologies, and new products. And our corporate innovation awareness is relatively weak. As of last year, the Packaging Technology Committee of the China Packaging Technology Association carried out industry quality assessment activities in East China for 21 consecutive years. Since the previous year, the company has innovated in the past year, and has specifically added "Design Innovation Award" and "New Process (New Technology) Innovation Award". The "New Material Development Award" and other three awards to enhance the company's sense of innovation and increase the company's innovation. However, it is very regrettable that from the quality assessment of the last two Eastern China regions and the first national quality appraisal this year, the number of products and enterprises that received these three innovation awards is very small, less than 1%. The three awards are vacant one year and two each year. The awards, even if they have obtained the products of these three awards, there are not many real independent intellectual property rights. This is one of the major gaps between China's packaging and printing industry and the international advanced level, and it is also a very fatal weakness for us. Talent shortage Packaging and printing industry is born out of small workshop production methods, so the proportion of employees who have received higher education and have intermediate technical titles is much lower than machinery, chemicals, electronics, automobiles and other industries. According to our understanding, some well-known in the industry For large companies, their talent structure and professional structure are unreasonable, and engineers and senior workers occupy a very low proportion, less than 4%. Senior engineers, technicians, and senior technicians are even rarer. At the same time, a large number of first-line production technical workers are not properly trained. Many companies, especially small and medium-sized private enterprises, are reluctant to invest in talent training, fearing that employees will change jobs after training. Return. Therefore, we only use it, and we do not train the method of employing people to perform the fishery. This has greatly constrained the improvement of the overall quality of the industry's employees, resulting in a shortage of industry professionals.
At present, although there are packaging engineering colleges and printing colleges in China, each year a group of professional and technical personnel are trained to enter the industry. However, due to the limited time for the professional courses of packaging engineering and printing colleges, its rationality and practicality Sexuality and professionalism have yet to be gradually improved. After the graduates of these colleges and universities have applied their knowledge after work, there is a lagging effect when the theory is combined with actual relearning and running-in. Even if all graduates can become professionals through years of practice, then compared to the industry's 1 million employees, it is only a drop in the bucket and it is difficult to understand their thirst.
Insufficient production capacity of refined products, excess production capacity of general products According to national standards for quality of packaging and printing products, packaging and printing products can be divided into refined products and general products, and the proportion of packaging printing products that can currently be produced in accordance with refined product standards is not high. About only about 40% of this is mainly due to the influence and constraints of many factors such as mechanical equipment, staff technical quality, and management level.
After the reform and opening up, people’s lives have been greatly improved, commodities have become more and more abundant, and the competition between commodities has become increasingly fierce. In the past, the situation in which a branded product dominated the market and remained prosperous has been lost forever. Now. Commodity competition has become increasingly demanding on the packaging and printing of products that reflect the quality and value of the products. This is in contrast with the current lack of production capacity of refined products for packaging and printing in China. According to the information provided by Yunnan, Jiangxi, and other relevant parties, these provinces have very rich local specialty commodity resources, but they lack the matching refined packaging and printing products. As a result, there is a considerable outflow of packaging and printing business each year, which hinders the region. The improvement of the production capacity of refined products and the improvement of the printing level have led to a contradiction between the production capacity of refined products and the demand for packaged goods.
At present, a large number of enterprises in the industry, especially those with lower technological equipment, can only produce general products, which results in more intense competition in low-end products, and compete for limited business resources through mutual price reduction, resulting in the continuous decline in the profitability of the entire industry. The transformation and upgrading of equipment are even lower. Such a vicious circle will, in the long run, eliminate a number of low-end product manufacturers and drag down a group of well-developed companies.
