Proofer calibration and file processing in G7 (1)

This section describes how to use the G7 method to calibrate the proofing system, and how to use color management to further optimize the proofing machine to match the formal reference characterization data (such as RACOL7, conventional ICC files).

Note: G7 proofer calibration is almost the same as printing press calibration. This section is also a supplement to the previous section, and is just a note of section 7.1.

What kind of proofing machine is suitable for G7?

The pre-press proofing system controlled by the RIP principle can be calibrated by the same series of printer calibration procedures, and then if necessary, ICC files or linking devices can be used to bring the colors closer to the reference characterization files. The proofing system without CMYK correction function is not suitable for G7 correction, but it also needs to use ICC files or similar color management methods to enable it to achieve a better match with the color of the reference file.

Following these instructions, your proofing system may require some adjustments, but the final state of any device is the same. If your proofing system is not suitable for these methods, you can consult the supplier on how to match the standardized charts.

Overall workflow

Improve the proofer
Printing proofing proofs
Measuring P2P chart
Draw curve or input data into IDEAlink software
Use the GrayFinder chart to find the gray balance correction value, or use the gray balance option in the IDEAlink software
Apply the correction value to the proofing RIP, and use the CMY three-color curve to obtain a gray balance if necessary.
Reprint and reanalyze P2P charts
Production and application of ICC documents (if necessary)
Check color matching
