Technical Application of Halogen Moisture Analyzer in Tobacco Industry

This document details the application of the METTLER TOLEDO Halogen Moisture Analyzer for the determination of moisture in dried tobacco. This type of instrument allows you to establish a drying method that meets your personal needs. You can compare the data of the reference method with the halogen moisture analysis method.

1. Determination of moisture in tobacco:

1. Select the sample:

Filter cigarettes, 20 packs per pack; the cut tobacco in the cigarette is cut and mixed evenly, keeping the mixture as light brown particles of different sizes

2. Reference method: oven method

1. Instruments and appliances:

METTLER TOLEDO AX205 variable range analytical balance, scalpel, weighing bottle with lid, beaker of 500 ml, laboratory spoon, dryer

2. Sample preparation / procedure:

Before measuring the moisture, first open the cigarette box and cut the cigarette paper with a scalpel to remove the cut tobacco. Place the tobacco in the 20 cigarettes in the beaker and mix well. The tobacco mixture was placed in a dry (110 ° C for 1 hour) and weighed in a weighed bottle with a lid, and then placed in a preheated oven and heated to dry. After the preset time is reached, the sample is taken out of the oven, placed in a desiccator, cooled and weighed immediately. Repeat this process until constant weight.

3. Experimental data:

Sample weight: 3g

Baking temperature: 103 ℃

Baking time: 3/17 / 2.5 hours

Moisture capacity (average of 6 experiments): 14.98%

Standard deviation: 0.27%

4. Notes / References

The measurement must be performed immediately after the cigarette case is unsealed to avoid the loss of sample moisture.

3. Determination of Halogen Moisture Analyzer

1. Instruments and appliances:

METTLER TOLEDO Halogen Moisture Analyzer HR73, aluminum pan, laboratory spoon, 500 ml beaker, scalpel

2. Sample preparation / procedure: Open the cigarette box and cut the cigarette paper with a scalpel before taking out the moisture. Place the tobacco in the 20 cigarettes in the beaker and mix well. Place the tobacco directly on the aluminum pan in HR73 and distribute it evenly on the pan. Start testing.

3. Instrument settings (HR73, software version 1.10)

4. Experimental results

Moisture capacity (average of 6 trials): 14.87%

Standard deviation: 0.48%

Average drying time: 10 minutes

5. Matters needing attention:

To ensure the accuracy of the results, the tobacco must be processed immediately and evenly distributed on the aluminum pan.

What are the advantages of U-Panel Bulk Bags?

U-Panel Bulk Bags have the bottom and the two main sides made from a single piece of fabric. This helps to distribute the weight uniformly all along the curved length of the fabric, adding more strength to the bag.

U-Panel bags have:

    Safety ratio – 5:1 and 6:1
    Sizes – 2,000, 3,000 and 4,000 lb bags
Use for – Transporting heavy and dense materials

What are U-Panel Bulk Bags useful for?

U-Panel Bulk Bags are common in industries for carrying a variety of materials. This bag is most useful for transporting any type of flake, pellet, powder, granule or free-flowing material.

The additional strength provided by the U-Panel design allows this bag to be used for carrying heavier products (such as raw materials) that are over 3,500 lb in weight.
