Noryl PKN from GE Plastics is a new PPO-based resin series that provides a balance of stiffness and toughness for frozen microwave food packaging applications. Can be blended with PS, has a good cost performance in special applications. The PPO-styrene blend aims to replace PP and CPET in hinged food containers, clamshell trays, lids, and blister packs. Materials comply with FDA regulations and have translucent and opaque grades. Translucent grades 4752 and 4766 targets are translucent plates and lids. 4752 is a high-temperature type, Vicat softening point 173 °C, Izod notch impact strength 96 J/m; 4766 high mobility, MFR = 25 g/10 min, with a translucent food and electronic packaging, the Vicat softening point is 125 °C, Izod notched impact strength 26.7 J/m. The 4736 and 4765 grades are used for opaque food packaging, with Izod notched impact strengths of 96 J/m and 85 J/m, respectively. 4736 is a high-heat product with a high ESCR and is suitable for high-fat, high-oil packaged foods. Noryl PKN 4717 is used to make extruded foam packaging.
