Analysis of Mechanical Properties of Tetra Pillow Corrugated Carton Containers (I)

The carton is used as an outer package, which is both a transport package and a sales package. The storage period of the product is as long as 45 days. The inner packaging itself is very fragile. The place of production and sales place is often a thousand miles away. The cartons of individual products even have months of inventory. Therefore, it is of great significance to better insure product quality and reduce costs by studying the influence of corrugated box inventory conditions, inventory time, and stacking status on carton strength. This article mainly studies the mechanical properties of corrugated boxes in inventory and transportation.

Experimental methods and results

Corrugated cardboard warehouses were selected in a warehouse in Shanghai. The workshops were spacious, clean, and ventilated. The differences in temperature and humidity inside and outside the warehouse were small. The cartons were stored in such a warehouse for 7 months. The mechanical properties were tested monthly and the test results were analyzed.

1. Laboratory equipment

The Yangtze River DC-K 丫 50kL computer monitoring and control compression test machine, DC-KY3000A computer monitoring and control compression tester, Hangzhou Yq-Z a 23A burst resistance tester.

2. Experimental sample

Samples are S-2.1 single corrugated, slotted (0201 type) carton packs of 486m1 X8 Tetra Pillow, belonging to the domestic product transportation.

The thickness of corrugated board is 3.45mm. The internal dimensions of the carton are 240mm X195mm X 145ma. The weight of the product is 4.5kg.

3. Experimental determination

The experimental corrugated boxes were placed in the warehouse for storage from January to July 2004. The temperature and humidity in the warehouse are not controlled. The storage environment in each month is shown in Table 1.


Each month, a sample was taken from the corrugated box to determine the compressive strength, side pressure strength, adhesive strength, and burst strength. Measurement method: according to GB / 4857.4-92 "packaging transport package pressure test method" determination of the corrugated paperboard air compressive strength; CB / 6546-1 998 corrugated board edge pressure strength determination method; GB / the next 6548 -1 998 corrugated board adhesive strength determination method; GB / factory 6545- 1 998 corrugated carton carton breaking strength determination method.

The laboratory environment and sample pretreatment environment are 50% ± 5% at 23°C ± 2°C.

4. Experimental results

(1) The test of edge pressure strength, adhesive strength, burst strength, and compressive strength was performed once a month during storage of corrugated boxes. The data is shown in Table 2.
